Amar sin las pasiones del amar,
estar helado sin dejar de arder,
querer por la costumbre del querer,
inútil el cuidado en olvidar.
Por sólo habituación perseverar
amor naturaleza llega a ser;
¡qué fácil, Filis, es de padecer!
Mas, ¡qué imposible, Filis, de acabar!
Por violenta la flecha en el subir,
es la violencia en descender mayor,
mira el rayo apagarse sin lucir;
luego si ardor violento es sólo ardor
que sin perseverar ha de morir,
será un amor remiso eterno amor.
