La violencia, Leucido, de los hados
¿en qué los ofendí? Lleva mi vida,
llévate, oh Amarilis, ofrecida
a mal seguros golfos y apartados.
¿Cómo pues yo de afanes y cuidados
batido miro el mar con tan erguida
frente y muda paciencia, no vencida
de estos escollos yertos y callados?
Cedo a la fuerza cuerdo, y cedo al día,
la esperanza alargando, y si no engaña
su arte al sabio, Amarilis serás mía.
Así del pez es dueño, cuando siente
fuerzas en él mayores que en la caña,
si le da cuerda el pescador prudente.
